2016 Committee Members:
Alexander McKinven, PT, MSc, Chair
The Program Committee determines the dance medicine and science content of the Annual Conference and supervises the planning and logistics of the Annual Conference, working with the IADMS Annual Conference Producer and the local conference producer (if applicable). Independent reviewers perform blind reviews of the abstracts of all presentation proposals that are submitted each year. Based upon these reviews the scientific content of the conference is determined.
The committee works in conjunction with the Continuing Education Commitee to insure that appropriate credits, including AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, are available each year for healthcare professionals. To ensure that the Annual Conference qualifies for these credits the commitee chair, committee members, and all activity faculty (that is, anyone in a position to control the content of the education activity) are required to disclose to the delegates all relevant financial relationships with commercial interests. The committee also requires that faculty make clinical recommendations based on the best available scientific evidence and that faculty identify any discussion of the "off-label” or investigational use of pharmaceutical products or medical devices. Finally, the committee requires that presentations describing research involving human subjects follow appropriate international ethics standards.
As part of the IADMS Strategic Plan, the Program Committee has implemented multi-disciplinary clinical (medical) symposia at the Annual Conferences. The program committee monitors feedback from members and other attendees to the annual conference to ensure a high quality conference is produced that address the needs and wants of the audience.
