Social Events


Please note that these social events require advanced registration as part of the online conference registration process (via the IADMS Annual Meeting website). All events are open to delegates and their guests and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited space. All prices quoted are in US Dollars.

All events are subject to change. You must register in advance. Limited on-site registration for social events may be possible if space is available, but is not guaranteed.

Thursday, October 13 – 7:00 pm

Welcome Reception
The Welcome Reception will take place in the Galaxy Ballroom, located on the 16th floor of the Sheraton National Hotel, offering breathtaking views of the Washington, DC skyline. By day the view encompasses many historic monuments and by night the skyline is lit up by the twinkle of monuments and city lights.

Friday, October 14

NOTE: If you wish to attend this event you cannot attend the afternoon tours (except the "Monumental Jog/Walk"). The other tours will end too late in the afternoon.

Bus transportation fee: $15

(If you go on your own: Metro to Cleveland Park or Tenleytown – Red Line)

The Washington Ballet Company, founded by Mary Day, and now under the artistic direction of Septime Webre, will be in rehearsal for The Great Gatsby during the IADMS Annual Meeting.

There are a limited number of places; space can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis when you register for the Annual Meeting online. Available only until September 9.

7:30 pm – Dance Performance

The Suzanne Farrell Ballet at The Kennedy Center, Washington, DC

Tickets: Orchestra $70; Balcony $55 – includes bus transportation to and from performance

(If you go on your own: Metro to Foggy Bottom-GWU – Blue and Orange Lines. From there, walk to Kennedy Center via New Hampshire Avenue or use free shuttle. Signs for shuttle are towards the left as you exit the escalator. The shuttle departs every 15 minutes.)

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet will present Balanchine’s Diamonds in an artistic partnership with The Sarasota Ballet.

There are a limited number of tickets; tickets can be purchased on a first-come, first-served basis when you register for the Annual Meeting online. Available only until September 9.

Saturday, October 15 – 8:00 pm

Dance Performance
Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company at Dance Place 3225 8th Street NE, Washington, DC

Tickets $36 – includes bus transportation to and from performance

(If you go on your own: Metro to Brookland-CUA – Red Line)

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company premieres Burgess's newest work entitled "Dreams," a multimedia work exploring the struggle to attain the American dream. Also on the program is Burgess's critically acclaimed, autobiographical work, Charlie Chan and the Mystery of Love. Burgess has been called the "poet laureate of DC dance" for his thoughtful and sophisticated portraits of the human experience.

There are a limited number of tickets; tickets can be purchased on a first-come, first-served basis when you register for the Annual Meeting online. Available only until September 9.
