For Teachers

IADMS strives to provide dance teachers all over the world with access to valuable information and resources. Well-informed dance teachers can enable dancers to dance longer and stronger. It is in the studio that future generations of dancers are born, either for the professional theater or for recreational pleasure. By keeping dance teachers up-to-date with the best medical and scientific information, we hope to facilitate the life-enhancing joy of dancing and enable professionals to enjoy longer and healthier dancing careers.

  • 'A Day for Teachers' Conference
Since 1997 a separate 'Day For Teachers' has been held before or after the IADMS Annual Meeting.  The lectures at these conferences are specifically geared to dance teachers.

  • Bulletin for Teachers
The IADMS Bulletin for Teachers applies dance medicine/science theory and research to practical problems in dance education, dance training, and dance performance. It addresses issues of concern to teachers of amateur, pre-professional or professional dancers across the age span. The articles identify practical teaching problems and present scientific knowledge that may enlighten teaching practices.

  • Dance Science Posters
These large, full-color posters provide relevant information on dance science topics, with text drawn from IADMS Resource Papers.  They are suitable for framing, and are available for purchase from the IADMS On-Line Store.

  • Resource Papers and Fact Sheets
Resource Papers present applications of current medical knowledge and scientific research to dance teaching, forming a bridge between the technical aspects of dance medicine/science and the day-to-day needs of dancers and dance teachers.

  • Safe and Effective Dance Practice Qualification
Written by IADMS and adminstered worldwide by Trinity College London, an international examinations board, this qualification (certification) has been constructed to provide a practical and useful way for a wide variety of dance practitioners to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safe dance practices.

  • Studio Teachers’ Network
This initiative for studio teachers provides many benefits, including discounts, email links to the IADMS Bulletin for Teachers, and a listing in the IADMS Studio Teachers' Network On-Line Directory.  Each year you will also receive three attractive and informational posters with text drawn from IADMS Resource Papers.
