The 27th Annual Conference of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) will be held in Houston, Texas, USA from Thursday, October 12 – Sunday, October 15, 2017. Special Interest Days will be held during the conference, including A Day for Teachers (ADFT) on Friday, October 13, and A Day for Medics (ADFM) on Saturday, Oct 14.

This year’s conference will take place at the JW Marriott Houston, situated in the Galleria-Uptown neighborhood of Houston. Over the four-day conference, attendees will be invited to participate in didactic sessions, interactive workshops, movement sessions, round table discussions, networking events, debates, poster presentations, and more.

The JW Marriott is offering special discount rates to conference attendees. Book your reservation early - these IADMS discount rates end September 19, 2017.

Target Audience
This four-day conference is directed to those involved with the health care, education, administration, and supervision of dancers, including physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, allied health professionals, alternative health care practitioners, psychologists, arts administrators, artistic directors, choreographers, educators, scientists, movement specialists, and dancers.

Continuing Medical Education Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. recognize the causes and treatments of musculoskeletal problems in dancers, as well as strategies for prevention;
  2. develop preventative and treatment protocols based on recent research and medical advances to effectively diagnose, manage, and refer orthopaedic pathologies and dance injuries;
  3. identify appropriate available resources in the community for dancer-patients.

Early Bird Registration: through August 1, 2017 – Receive $30 off registration fee
Presenters' Registration: through August 1, 2017 – Receive 20% off registration fee
Late Registration Fee: after September 25, 2017 – Additional $50 administrative fee/surcharge
Discounts cannot be combined. Discounts will not be applied retroactively.

Attend the IADMS Annual Conference and Special Interest Days and you will: (1) gain insights into the causes and treatments of musculoskeletal problems in dancers, as well as strategies for prevention; (2) enhance your understanding of recent research and its application to the training and treatment of dancers; (3) enhance your knowledge regarding the psychological and nutritional issues that affect dancers; (4) be inspired to move in new ways and to incorporate new techniques into your teaching after participating in a variety of movement sessions; and (5) increase your ability to communicate effectively with other dance professionals, be they dancers, dance educators, dance scientists, movement specialists, or health care professionals. A Day for Teachers
A Day For Teachers will be run alongside the main conference on Friday, October 13th. Aimed primarily at local dance teachers, the programme will consist of a series of presentations on the application of dance science and medicine in the studio.
You may register to attend A Day for Teachers even if you do not attend the IADMS Annual Conference.

A Day for Medics
A Day for Medics will be run within the main conference on Saturday, October 14th. Aimed at the local and mainland medical and paramedical professions, the programme will consist of a series of presentations from an international collection of esteemed dance medicine practitioners.
You may register to attend A Day for Medics even if you do not attend the IADMS Annual Conference.
