The Education Committee promotes communication and education for dance teachers, dance students, parents, dancers, and the medical and other health practitioners who provide their care. The committee develops resource papers, fact sheets, and posters to disseminate information on safe, healthy dance education practices and on lifestyle choices that prolong dance careers. The Bulletin for Dancers and Teachers, an online publication, helps teachers to ensure that their practice is in line with current scientific knowledge.
One of the committee’s major functions is to produce A Day for Teachers, a special meeting geared to the needs of dance teachers. This important event follows the IADMS Annual Conference each year.
Dance Educator Award
The Education Committee seeks to recognize teachers who integrate principles of dance science in their teaching.
Nominations should be mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org Attention DEA
Resources for Teachers
IADMS strives to provide dance teachers all over the world with access to valuable information and resources. Well-informed dance teachers can enable dancers to dance longer and stronger. It is in the studio that future generations of dancers are born, either for the professional theater or for recreational pleasure. By keeping dance teachers up-to-date with the best medical and scientific information, we hope to facilitate the life-enhancing joy of dancing and enable professionals to enjoy longer and healthier dancing careers.
'A Day for Teachers' Conference
Since 1997 a separate 'Day For Teachers' has been held before or after the IADMS Annual Meeting. The lectures at these conferences are specifically geared to dance teachers.
Bulletin for Teachers
The IADMS Bulletin for Dancers and Teachers applies dance medicine/science theory and research to practical problems in dance education, dance training, and dance performance. It addresses issues of concern to teachers of amateur, pre-professional or professional dancers across the age span. The articles identify practical teaching problems and present scientific knowledge that may enlighten teaching practices.
Dance Medicine and Science Posters
These large, full-color posters provide relevant information on dance medicine and science topics, with text drawn from IADMS Resource Papers. They are suitable for framing, and are available for purchase from the IADMS Online Store.
Resource Papers present applications of current medical knowledge and scientific research to dance teaching, forming a bridge between the technical aspects of dance medicine/science and the day-to-day needs of dancers and dance teachers.
Dance Education Network
This informational quarterly newsletter is geared to non-IADMS members to interest them in the Education Committee activities and IADMS organization.
