Location


America’s capital, Washington, DC, is a vibrant city known for its vast green parks, urban spaces, majestic neoclassical architecture and iconic memorials. The city offers attractions for every visitor with numerous national monuments, historical sites, boutiques, art galleries, museums and sporting events. During October, visitors can enjoy pleasant weather and beautiful fall foliage. Once the sun goes down, the lights transform the city into a wonderland with more to explore by moonlight.

Venue
All meeting sessions will be held at the Sheraton National Hotel located in Arlington, Virginia, less than 4 miles from the center of Washington, DC. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle (van) service to the Pentagon City Mall / Pentagon City Metro station, a 5 minute ride, with scheduled runs at least every 30 minutes. From Pentagon City it is a 10 minute train ride to DC.

Climate and Clothing
Warmer weather usually prevails through the end of October with temperature reaching 68° F / 20° C and lows around 50° F / 10° C. October can be a wet month with an average of 3.2 inch / 8.1 cm of rain, so pack your rain jacket and hope for sun. During the Annual Meeting, Washington, DC will be on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (UTC-4 or GMT-4).


Travel


Complimentary Hotel Shuttle
The hotel provides free shuttles to and from Reagan National Airport and Pentagon City Mall (and Metro). Each shuttle makes round trips from 7 am until 11 pm.

  1. Reagan National Airport:
    Designated pick-up locations are next to the red ‘Hotel Shuttle’ signs on the baggage claim level.
    Shuttles will pick up on the hour and half hour (x:00 and x:30).
  2. Pentagon City Mall:
    Designated pick-up location is near the Pentagon City Metro access point (escalator) on the west side of S. Hayes Street (the side of the street with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the Nordstrom department store).
    Shuttles will pick up every quarter-after and quarter-of the hour (x:15 and x:45).

Local (Arlington) Taxis

Arlington Blue Top Cabs offers 24 hour service to and from Northern Virginia, including Washington National Airport. Rates are determined by meter and credit cards are welcome.

There are three airports that serve Arlington, Virginia and Washington, DC:

National Airport is located 3 miles (5 km) by car southeast of the meeting venue, along the Potomac River, and offers domestic (US) flights only.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Dulles Airport is located 26 miles (42 km) by car west of the meeting venue and offers domestic and international flights. This is the preferred airport for international and transcontinental flights.

Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

BWI is located 38 miles (61 km) by car northeast of the meeting venue and offers domestic and international flights.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Hotel
The Sheraton National Hotel offers a complimentary shuttle from 7 am until 11 pm, departing on the hour and half hour from the airport. Travelers can pick up the shuttle next to the red ‘Hotel Shuttle’ sign outside the doors on the baggage claim level. The ride takes approximately 13 minutes.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Hotel

Metro-bus route 5A stops at the Ground Transportation Curb (Arrivals level, down the ramp) at curb location 2E and offers connections from Dulles to the Rosslyn Metro station.
From Rosslyn, take the Metro 'Blue' line to 'Pentagon City' (one stop after 'Pentagon') where transportation to the hotel is provided via a complimentary shuttle.
Travel time is approximately 90 minutes.
Cost is approximately $8.20.

Taxicabs accept American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, Discover Card, and Visa, and provide transportation at metered rates to any destination within the metropolitan Washington area. No reservation is required when leaving the airport. Follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" or "Taxi" to the lower level of the Main Terminal, where a taxicab dispatcher is on duty 24 hours a day.
Travel time is approximately 50 minutes in traffic.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to Hotel

Via Bus and Metrowww.wmata.com
BWI Express Metro bus service provides a direct connection between BWI and the Greenbelt Metro Station ('Green' Line of the Washington Metro System). The BWI Express/B30 service runs every 40 minutes, 7 days a week. There are two WMATA Bus Stops: (1) lower level of the International Concourse and (2) on the lower level of Concourse A/B. The B30 will pick you up outside at the bus shelter. Follow the signs that say "Public Transit."
Transfer from the Metro 'Green' line to the 'Yellow' line at L’Enfant Plaza for a final destination of 'Pentagon City' (one stop after 'Pentagon'). At Pentagon City you can take the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus to the hotel.
Travel time is approximately 2 hours.
Cost is approximately $11.50

Via Taxi
BWI Airport Taxi
The taxi stand is located just outside of the baggage claim area of the Lower Level of the BWI Marshall terminal. Please note that this service is available from BWI Marshall only. No reservations are needed to access this service.
Travel time is approximately 90 minutes in traffic.
Cost is appproximately $100

Via Rail
This transfer requires multiple steps, so the total travel time is quite variable:
(1) Shuttle bus from airport to rail station: Shuttle buses from the BWI Marshall terminal building to the rail station operate every 12 minutes from 5 am to 1 am daily and every 25 minutes between 1 am and 5 am daily. Pick-up locations are on the lower level terminal roadway in between door numbers 1 & 2, 8 & 9, 14 & 15, and 17 & 18. Buses stop adjacent to the rail station garage, directly in front of the rail station. The BWI Rail Station is located one mile from the terminal building.
(2) Rail tranfer is via Amtrak trains from BWI to Union Station, Washington, DC: www.amtrak.com
Travel time is approximately 35 minutes. Cost is approximately $14.
(3) Metro: At Union station you must transfer to the Metro 'Red' line. Get off at Gallery Place-Chinatown and transfer to the 'Yellow' line for travel to 'Pentagon City' (one stop after 'Pentagon'). Travel time 30 minutes. Cost $1.60.
(4) Once at Pentagon City you can take the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus to the hotel.

Easy rail access is available on Amtrak trains to Union Station in Washington, DC.
Travel from New York, New York Penn Station takes approximately 3 hours.
Travel from Boston, Massachusetts South Station takes approximately 7 hours.
Travel from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 30th Street Station takes approximately 2 hours.

Union Station to Hotel via Metro: At Union Station you can use the Metro 'Red' line. Get off at Gallery Place-Chinatown and transfer to the 'Yellow' line for travel to 'Pentagon City' (one stop after 'Pentagon'). Union Station to Hotel via Taxi: Just outside the Union Station main entrance/exit, travelers can hail a taxi. Travel time is approximately 15-20 minutes. Cost is approximately $20.

AUTOMOBILE
If you are staying in the hotel, overnight parking is complimentary. If you are not staying in the hotel, parking is $10 per day.

Entry Visas
All foreign visitors entering the United States must be in possession of a valid passport, with an entry visa if required. Most visitors do not require visas, but delegates should consult the US Department of State website for specific regulations: http://travel.state.gov/visa

Insurance
It is strongly recommended that delegates take out comprehensive medical, travel and personal insurance prior to the commencement of travel, in the unlikely event that unforeseen circumstances affect the meeting or your travel plans.
