Friday Afternoon Tours


Please note that these tours require advanced registration as part of the online conference registration process (via the IADMS Annual Meeting website). All tours are open to delegates and their guests and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited space. All prices quoted are in US Dollars.

All tours are subject to change. You must register by September 30, 2012. Limited on-site registration for tours may be possible if space is available, but is not guaranteed.

2:00 - 5:30 pmHeritage Tour

This tour is a unique sightseeing experience and an exploration of the history and cultural heritage of Singapore. It will take participants into the colourful ethnic enclaves of Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam.

Chinatown – Visit Sri Mariamman Temple, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Terengganu Street, Smith Street, and Temple Street to be introduced to the old Chinatown and the various places the early settlers settled.

Little India – Tour Little India Arcade which houses a collection of old photographs and history of the area, walk down Dunlop Street to be introduced to the shops selling spices, traders selling flowers for prayer and use by women, and various shops selling vegetables and artifacts imported from India.

Kampong Glam – Visit Sultan Mosque which also has a museum where one is introduced to the origins of the mosque and the early settlers who lived here. Participants will also be shown the compounds of Istana Kampong Glam where the sultan lived and be introduced to Bussorah Street and Arab Street where there are still a small number of merchants dealing in silk, batik, and items made of rattan.

This program includes:

  • English-speaking tour guide
  • Air-conditioned coach
  • Part of the tour will be a walking tour, so comfortable shoes and clothes with sun protection are recommended.

2:00 - 5:00 pm – City Tour – Open-Top Coach

Explore the city onboard a chartered FunVee double-decker open-top bus.

Your city tour route includes the following:

Novotel Clarke Quay → River Valley → Havelock Road → Zion Road → Grange Road → Botanic Gardens → Orchard Road → Brass Basah → Raffles Boulevard (Singapore Flyer; stop for picture-taking) → Raffles Avenue (Esplanade) → Connaught Drive (Civic District) → Fullerton Road (Merlion Park) → Raffles Quay (Lau Pa Sat) → Cross Street → South Bridge Road (Buddha Tooth Relic Temple; stop for picture-taking) → Kreta Ayer Road → Eu Tong Street (Chinatown) → Novotel Clarke Quay

This program includes an English-speaking tour guide
