2012 Annual Meeting – Overview

The 22nd Annual Meeting of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) will be held in Singapore from October 25 - 27, 2012. Meeting activities and sessions will be held at the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay located on the Singapore River. On Sunday, October 28, 2012, a special program, "A Day for Teachers" will be held.

Target Audience
This three-day meeting is directed to those involved with the health-care, education, administration and supervision of dancers, including physicians, physical therapists, allied health professionals, alternative healthcare practitioners, psychologists, arts administrators, artistic directors, choreographers, educators, scientists, movement specialists, and dancers.

Upon completion of this meeting, attendees will:

  1. Gain insights into the causes and treatments of musculoskeletal problems in dancers, as well as strategies for prevention.
  2. Improve competence in the identification of physiological impacts of dance.
  3. Advance their knowledge of the biomechanics of dance and apply this to injury prevention and management.
  4. Enhance their knowledge regarding the psychological and nutritional issues that affect dancers.
  5. Integrate newly acquired clinical knowledge into their own areas of expertise based upon their participation in movement sessions.
  6. Increase their ability to communicate effectively with dancers, dance educators, dance scientists, movement specialists, and health care professionals.

Special Interest Groups (SIG) Day
A program will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012 for specialty groups from the dance medicine and science community. You may register to attend SIG Day even if you do not attend the IADMS Annual Meeting.

A Day for Teachers, Approaches to Wellness for Dancers, will explore the psychological and physical essentials of disciplines that many dancers use to complement dance technique class.
