Meet our Operational Committees: Professional Development Committee

In the next few blog posts we will be introducing our Operational Committees. Operational Committees work on the short and long-term goals driven by the strategic plan and vision of the organization. Each committee has a specific purpose and works closely with the Board of Directors and IADMS staff to accomplish their goals. We have ten committees, which include the following:

  • Dance Educators
  • Dance for Health
  • Development
  • Physician
  • Professional Development
  • Program
  • Promotion
  • Publications
  • Research
  • Student

We asked each of our committees to share with us information about what their committee is about and what work they get up to. Below you will see responses from the Professional Development Committee:

What work within IADMS is the Professional Development Committee responsible for?

The Professional Development Committee identifies the educational and accreditation needs of the dance medicine and science community to develop resources, online courses, and other initiatives that satisfy gaps in the field.

What is the mission statement for the Professional Development Committee?

Mission: The Professional Development Committee will facilitate the professional development of the Association’s membership by providing educational material, on-line courses, continuing medical education (CME) activities, benchmarking, and other initiatives as deemed appropriate and in line with the Association’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

What are some of the recent projects your committee has been working on?

The committee has been developing benchmarks for each of IADMS Professional Membership categories for each country/region of our membership. This will be a living document as new members join us and standards evolve. Under this heading we have developed an application form that allows members to apply for IADMS Recognised Professional (IRP) that will be going live soon.

Alongside of this we are working with the other committees to develop CPD courses to help new graduates and those new to dance medicine and science to attain the skills and knowledge to apply for IRP.
